Episode 74

Let’s face it, deploying IoT within a company, especially a large one, is an exercise in change management. To be successful on this multi-year journey takes a lot of planning, getting your priorities straight, some politicking and a bit of luck. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel, learn from your peers.

Listen to this podcast (or read the transcript) with Maciej Kranz who shares his experience in what works and what fails miserably

Episode 60

What’s the IQ of your city? There are a few ways to raise it to become a smart city. The bottom-up approach starts with a few IoT pilots to see what sticks and what the operational implications are. The top-down approach looks at the city as a platform providing interconnectivity.

Listen to this podcast (or read the transcript) where I speak with Miguel Gamino, San Francisco’s CIO, about his approach to make his city the smartest of them all

Episode 36

Ripping out an existing SCADA system and replacing it with an IoT deployment isn’t going to happen any time soon. Whether it’s an oil pipeline or a water processing plant, the job of the OT guys is to keep things flowin’. Although the writing is on the wall, it’s going to take a lot more than the promise of information nirvana to change existing infrastructure.

Listen to this podcast (or read the transcript) with System Integrator Joel Hutton about his experience in applying the thin edge of the wedge to get an IoT pilot going with his clients

Episode E4

Wondering how IoT is being rolled out in cities? Look up… into the light. Streetlights are the perfect steppingstone to produce smart cities. Changing their bulbs to LEDs pay for themselves in 3-5 years but also present the opportunity to build out wireless mesh networks. These elevated networks allow more lighting control/efficiency and provide the foundation for other smart city services such as power and parking.

Listen to this podcast (or read the transcript) with Sterling Hughes about lessons learned in deploying Silversping’s networks in cities around the world. This is encore episode 4, of 4, which originally played in the IPv6 Show podcast
